Did you know that the average adult catches 2 to 4 colds a year, while an average baby can catch up to 12 a year? You may be wondering why everyone seems so sick in the winter months, versus the spring and summer. This is likely because we are spending our time indoors, in closer quarters and in airplanes seeing relatives or in malls shopping, which allows for better spread of cold viruses. My patients continually ask me how to prevent illnesses this winter. Below are the five best ways to do so. Good Luck and stay healthy!
1) WASH YOUR HANDS- Most viruses and bacteria are passed from person to person via droplets on your hands. By frequently washing, you can prevent this,
2) Try Not to Touch your Face- When you carry a virus or bacteria on your hands then touch your face, you siginificantly increase your chances of spreading that infection.
3) Drink Plenty of Fluids- Keeping yourself hydrated this winter, can boost your immune system and help you fight off infection.
4) Get a Good Night Sleep- When you sleep a least 6 to 8 hours a night, you are much more likely to beat that cold quicker and maybe even keep it off completely.
5) Remember your Fruits and Vegetables- There are so many fruits and veggies that contain natural anti-oxidants which can do a great job in fighting off infection!
